Okay let's say he did for that game - before he got sent off - still think u can get away with it at a field but soton is a different kettle of fish. We need to carry a threat. Kouyate vs Rice is two v different players.

Re: Will Rice Start Tomorrow ?
No goose - he definitely played further forward in that game, and quite a few others around then. I distinctly remember him commenting on it when interviewed after the game. He also scored one of his rare goals from open play in that one.

Re: Will Rice Start Tomorrow ?
At Liverpool it was him, obiang and kouyate. The later of the 3 was playing further fwd from my (drunk) memory.

If it is the 3 discussed it's basically us playing for a draw.

Haha maybe goose. Looking forward to seeing how Slav sets this up.

Re: Will Rice Start Tomorrow ?
Not sure I agree, goose. Defending, he has a tendency to ball-watch and some of his tackling is straight out of the Paul Scholes manual. Going forward, he can at least pick a pass. I seem to remember he had quite a good spell playing further forward a couple of years ago, e.g. in the 3-0 win at Liverpool.

Re: Will Rice Start Tomorrow ?
That would have to be the most negative midfield 3 we've ever played!
Noble is worse going forward than he is defending!

Re: Will Rice Start Tomorrow ?
Very interesting if true. He will either replace Obiang, who had a poor game last week. Or as someone has already suggested, Noble could be played further forward and Ayew would be dropped.

I said a few weeks ago that I expect Rice to break through this season and become an indispensable member of the first team, but I didn't expect it to happen this quickly. Let's see...

Re: Will Rice Start Tomorrow ?
Noble slightly forward of Obiang/Rice? I can see that as the three.

Re: Will Rice Start Tomorrow ?
I read a rumour he was starting. If true I'm assuming he will play as a holding midfielder? So noble or obiang gets the elbow?

Can't see noble, rice & obiang all starting??

Re: Will Rice Start Tomorrow ?
Absolutely, in a three at the back and he should stay there

He Burke and Oxford ought be the forefront of CB consideration

Re: Will Rice Start Tomorrow ?
Yes, for Fernandes. I reckon some kind of flexible 4-3-3, Noble slightly forward of Obiang/Rice holding.

the exile 6:16 Fri Aug 18
Re: Will Rice Start Tomorrow ?
Probably not but he should get some time off the bench. Surely only a matter of time until he becomes undropable. Would also like to see Haksabanovic brought on if Ayew is as ineffective as usual.

If Grandad is a 12 year old boy Rice is a nailed-on starter...
